Welcome to our graduate program webpage.
We are pleased that you are interested in graduate studies in Political Science at the University of Kentucky. The University of Kentucky has a distinguished history of research and educational achievement. And the Political Science Department has a long tradition of excellent scholarship, effective teaching, and training graduate students to become leading scholars in the discipline.
The graduate program trains students to be both excellent teachers and leading scholars. Students are supported in several ways. We provide students with ample opportunity to grow professionally with workshops, weekly research presentations, and conference travel support. Students also undergo an extensive review process each year to assure that they stay on a path towards success. Our recent placement record has been excellent, with students obtaining positions at schools such as the University of Rhode Island, the University of Central Florida, Virginia Military Institute, and UNC-Wilmington.
The department is home to scholars with a broad range of expertise, with emphasis on American Politics, International Relations, and Comparative Politics.
Lexington is a wonderful place to live: a mid-sized metropolitan city bordered by rolling horse farms and home to thoroughbred racing at Keeneland Race Track. It’s a great environment for hiking, biking and enjoying the great outdoors. Lexington also offers theater options, a variety of musical venues, and a great selection of movies and nightlife.
