Current students should make sure to familiarize themselves with the Graduate Student Handbook, which provides detailed information about all phases of the program. By January 18 of each year, all current students are required to submit a Self-Assessment Form in order to be eligible to continue in the program in good standing. And by early April, students wishing to be consider for summer funding and awards should follow the application instructions on the Honors & Awards page.
For students seeking support for conference travel or research, the process is as follows. At the beginning of the academic year, the DGS will communicate the travel and research funding available to the students throughout the year. This helps students plan by knowing a specific amount available. There are then two steps to use travel and research funding. First, students should start by conferring with their advisors and receiving confirmation that they are ready to present at a conference. Once this is approved, students should email the DGS to apply for support. A brief email request is fine, so long as it includes (1) the name of the conference, (2) confirmation of advisor approval, and (3) a very brief provisional cost estimate (to the extent known).
